Veterans Day & Remembrance Day.

Growing up I used to spend every Remembrance Day at our local War memorial paying respect to our fallen soldiers,

Growing up I watched war movies like every other young boy and listening to my relatives tell their account's of war,

Even as a young man I understood the futility of war,

But Veterans Day & Remembrance Day is not about war or patriotism or whatever our government's seem to think it

mean's to them or use it for,

It's about the brave men and women that paid and were willing to pay the ultimate price in defending their people and

their nation put a end to tyranny,

When they signed their name on the dotted line and took a vow to protect and serve their people,

they meant it! To me this is what's Veterans Day & Remembrance Day is truly about those brave men and women.

"For their service and sacrifice, warm words of thanks from a
grateful nation are more than warranted, but they aren't nearly enough. We
also owe our veterans the care they were promised and the benefits that they
have earned. We have a sacred trust with those who wear the uniform of the
United States of America. It's a commitment that begins at enlistment, and it
must never end. But we know that for too long, we've fallen short of meeting
that commitment. Too many wounded warriors go without the care that they need.
Too many veterans don't receive the support that they've earned. Too many who
once wore our nation's uniform now sleep in our nation's streets."
President Obama, March 19, 2009

I was a army cadet for many years and later tried to join the Army, During the
recruitment stages Argentina invaded the Falkland's and my regiment and I were
called into help in a training exercise with the Para's and the Gerkha's,
However my squad and I were in a Westland puma that crashed at Salisbury
plain, subsequently I failed the medical and was never able to finish my enlistment.
My name is Richard James William Gales,

I am not a Veteran,

But i am thankful to have know many!
